[TRAFFIC ALERT] Protests move from the N1 to the R101

The Department of Transport is now having to divert traffic back to the N1.

POLOKWANE – Spokesperson for the Department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says the protests have now moved from the N1 to the R101 and a taxi protest is currently taking place.

Traffic officials, who had to divert traffic from the N1 to the R101 are now having to divert traffic back on to the N1 from the R101.

“We can safely say the N1 is open now and we will be diverting traffic back. We apologise for the inconvenience caused to motorists,” he added.


POLOKWANE – According to the spokesperson for the Department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala, the situation in the area is chaotic and “completely out of control” due to community protests.

Moremi-Taueatsoala says Limpopo Traffic are diverting the traffic (direction North) via the Hammanskraal off-ramp to the R101 and south direction via the Maubane off-ramp to the R101.

“This is for the safety of motorists until the situation is under control. The N1 Hammanskraal is completely closed until further notice,” he said.

Community protests led to the closure of the highway two days ago but the situation was brought under control by the presence of police.
