[TAKE NOTE] R81 near Mooketsi is closed due to protest action

LIMPOPO – Spokesperson for the Department, Matome Moremi-Taueatsoala says motorists are advised to use alternative routes if traveling from Mooketsi to Polokwane.

“Motorists who are wanting to travel from Polokwane to Giyani should rather use the R71 until the situation has calmed down as protestors have blocked the road,” he advised. 

The road closures are due to community protests.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngeope says the R81 road along Polokwane and Giyani is barricaded with stones, soil and other objects.

“We are currently on scene with Public Order Police who have been deployed to deal with the situation. At this stage, there have been no reported incidents of damage to property, injuries or fatalities,” he concluded.
