This follows two separate incidents which took place in the Thohoyandou and Makhado Clusters in the past few days, says police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

On Wednesday, 4 April, in Tshino outside Thohoyandou, a group of residents cornered three suspected criminals, accusing them of being responsible for the spate of burglaries, house robberies as well as rapes in and around the area.

Ngoepe says the group assaulted the victims with various objects, instantly killing one.

“The two other victims sustained serious injuries and were taken to hospital for medical treatment,” says Ngoepe.

Police in Thohoyandou have opened a case of murder, two counts of attempted murder and public violence.

Meanwhile in Waterval, a group of residents in the Njakanjaka village mobilized themselves in protest of alleged “gangsters” who are terrorising their community, by stealing their properties and breaking in their spaza shops.

The group then traced the “gangsters”, apprehended one of them and assaulted him with various objects. He was killed instantly.

“Police in Waterval have opened cases of murder and public violence,” Ngoepe said.

Ledwaba added that communities should stop taking the law into their own hands and if they have information about any suspected persons involved in crime, they must call the police rather than to engage in this heinous acts which he says, is totally uncalled for.

No arrests have been made as yet.

Anyone with information which can lead to the arrest of all the suspects involved in these incidents, may contact the crime stop number 0860010111; the crime line sms 32211 or go to the nearest police station.
