Two Mokopane police officers arrested for bribery, granted bail

The suspects were arrested for soliciting and accepting a bribe from a foreign national.

MOKOPANE – According to Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, the suspects appeared in court on Wednesday, 11 April and were granted R4 000 bail each.

“Both accused are expected to appear before the same court on 11 May,” he concluded.


MOKOPANE – A Warrant Officer (50) and a Constable (35), stationed at the Mokopane police station were arrested on Tuesday, 3 April by the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit.

According to provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, the pair arrested a foreign national on Tuesday afternoon for being undocumented and reportedly demanded R500 for his release.

“The victim, who was allegedly locked at the back of the police van, phoned his relatives to ask for the money. The matter was brought to the Hawks’ attention and an entrapment operation was carried out, resulting in the arrest of the suspects after they accepted the bribe,” Maluleke explained.

The suspects will face charges relating to corruption, defeating the ends of justice and kidnapping.
