High school learner recuperating in hospital after stabbing incident on school ground

The police are on lookout for a 21-year-old learner who allegedly stabbed a fellow Gr 11 learner during school hours on the school premises at a Tzaneen high school yesterday afternoon (Monday 12 February 2018).

LIMPOPO – According to a statement issued by Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged the suspect (also a Gr 11 learner at the same school) stabbed the victim using a sharp instrument during a fight and then fled the scene.

“The injured learner sustained critical injuries was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he is still recuperating, says Ngoepe.

The cause of this fight is still unknown and the suspect is still on the run.

The Letsitele Police appeal to anyone with information about this suspect, to contact Colonel Cecil Machimane at 072 532 1725, the 24-hour crime stop number 0860010111, the crime line sms 32211 or the nearest Police Station.

The SAPS Provincial Commissioner LT Genl Nneke Ledwaba has condemned any form of bullying and violence in and around the learning environment in the most strongest possible terms.

“Members of the Community especially parents, educators and the school governing bodies, are advised and encouraged to ensure that children are not armed with any type of weapon while within the school premises in order to prevent this type of incident for happening,” says Ledwaba.

The SAPS in this province has embarked on an ongoing school safety programme to prevent Gangsterism and bullying in schools, where residents are encouraged to participate, concluded General Ledwaba.
