12 traffic officials arrested for corruption granted R1 000 bail

All twelve traffic officials who were arrested on separate occasions this week, appeared before the Mokopane Magistrates Court today on a charge of corruption.

MOKOPANE – “Each accused was granted bail of R1 000 and expected to appear before court on 28 March 2018,” confirmed Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke.

MOKOPANE – Another traffic official has been arrested for alleged corruption on Wednesday, which brings the total of officers arrested to twelve, confirmed the Hawks on Wednesday evening.

MOKOPANE – According to provincial Hawks spokesperson, Captain Matimba Maluleke, an intelligence driven operation between the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Crime unit and Road Traffic Management Corporation, to rid the province of corrupt officials, continued as eleven traffic officers were arrested in Mokopane for alleged corruption.

This comes a week after 10 traffic officials were arrested in Polokwane for fraud and corruption.

“The officers, between the ages of 32 and 54-years-old, were arrested following ongoing investigations related to soliciting bribes from motorists,” Maluleke said.

The latest arrests brings the total number of traffic officers arrested in the province to 33 since December 2017.

The suspects are expected to appear before Mokopane Magistrate Court on Wednesday, to face corruption charges.

Maluleke says the operation and investigations will continue.
