The race is divided into four categories: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km and 42 km distances.

Registration forms are obtainable on the CDM website.

“The aim of this marathon is to enhance and promote social cohesion, promote nation-building, regional identity and encourage a healthy lifestyle. In 2017 we had participants from other African states who came here to not only participate in the race, but also to appreciate and experience Capricorn district as a liveable, safe and peaceful region and to enjoy our diversity, identity and heritage,” said Mpe.

John Mpe (CDM Mayor) is confident more than 5 000 athletes will participate in the CDM 4-in-1 Race at the Polokwane Rugby Fields on 17 February.

He added they extended an invitation to Premier Chupu Mathabatha and all MECs and some have shown interest in taking part as with the previous edition. “We are delighted to be receiving a large number of enquiries. CDM will again sponsor a team of athletes who are going to participate in the Comrades Marathon,” he said.

Mpe thanked the Polokwane Athletic Club for partnering with them.

“Today it’s a mega project which grows in leaps and bounds. We also thank the athletes and all participants who braved the cold, cloudy weather to take part in the first edition of the race. This year, we are going big in all things – the number of runners, the prizes and logistics among others so we can make the 2018 edition better than last year’s,” Mpe said. One of the athletes, Ludwick Mamabolo, said he is happy and excited about the upcoming race.

“Mayor Mpe has shown us as ambassadors immense support which makes us proud to be a part of this race,” said Mamabolo.
