92 people died on Lim roads between 1-21 December
According to the Department of Transport, the number of fatalities during this period is lower than that of the same period in 2016.
LIMPOPO – The MEC is however still concerned over the amount of pedestrian deaths which have occurred along Limpopo roads which amounts to 24, says the spokesperson of the Department of Transport, Matome Moremi.
Accident report is as follows:
Capricorn District: 53 accident, 32 fatalitieis
Mopani District: 54 accidents, 14 fatalities
Sekhukhune District: 25 accidents, 19 fatalities
Vhembe District: 30 accidents, 16 fatalities
Waterberg District: 36 accidents, 11 fatalities
Total number of accidents during the same period in 2016 – 236
Total number of fatalities during the same period in 2016 – 141
Total number of accidents during the same period in 2017 – 198
Total number of fatalities during the same period in 2017 – 92
The fatalities include 35 drivers, 33 passengers and 24 pedestrians

Motorists are further urged to avoid speeding and unnecessary overtaking on the N1 road particularly around the Ysterberg area.
“Motorists are encouraged to stay within the speed limit saying that those that transgress will be arrested. Our unmarked vehicles are patrolling all over the province and those caught speeding will be arrested on the spot and will spend the weekend in jail,” he warned.

The MEC for Transport, Makoma Makhrupetje has urged motorists to be patient on the roads and arrive alive and safe.
