The 37-year-old police constable was involved in a domestic dispute which ended up in him shooting his father-in-law (53) in the head, killing him instantly.
“He then proceeded to shoot his girlfriend (27), his mother-in-law (51), sister-in-law (22) and brother-in-law (24) several times. They, however, survived and were taken to hospital for medical treatment and are now recuperating,” Ngoepe explained.
The suspect was found dead with the firearm next to him.
Ngoepe says the motive behind this incident is domestic related and says police urge people to refrain from resorting to violence when resolving domestic issues.
“We have professionals within the police service who are well trained to come with appropriate interventions that assist in resolving domestic problems. There are also relevant government structures who offer those services for free,” he concluded.
