POLICE CORRECTION: Only two children dead in poisoning saga
The South African Police Service would like to correct the number of children who died after eating 'chip snacks' allegedly picked up in the street in Extension 19 Sekgakgapeng village outside Mokopane, according to a statement released on Saturday, 12 November 2017.
LIMPOPO – Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, says it was confirmed this morning (Monday) that a third child who was reported dead over the weekend, is in fact still alive.
“Only two children are confirmed dead and three have been admitted to local hospitals for medical treatment. Tshepo Tlou (15) is alive, confirms Ngoepe.
The deceased have been identified as Memeza Elias Mulaudzi (10) and Paballo Selota (7).
The Department of health is deeply concerned that two Childen from Ext 19 in Mokopane died and others recovering from various hospital from Suspected Food poisoning after they picked some snacks on the streets,we call on Parents to vigilante.

Third child dies after eating snacks allegedly picked up in the street outside Mokopane
LIMPOPO -A third young boy has died after eating ‘chip snacks’ allegedly picked up in the street in Extension 19 Sekgakgapeng village outside Mokopane, reports the police.
According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, it is alleged five children subsequently started having some medical complications and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
“Two of the patients died upon admission to hospital and the third victim died later. Two children, aged 9 and 11-years-old, are still recuperating in hospital,” he adds.
The deceased have been identified as Paballo Selota (7), Tshepo Tlou (15) and Memeza Elias Mulaudzi (10).
The exact cause of these deaths is still unknown and police investigations are still unfolding, he concludes.

Two young boys die after eating snacks allegedly picked up in the street
LIMPOPO – The Department of Health is shocked following the death of two boys, between the age of seven and fifteen, after allegedly eating chips snacks picked from the street in Extension 19 Sekgakgapeng village outside Mokopane.
Derick Kganyago, the Spokesperson for the Department of Health reports: “According to our hospital reports one boy was admitted and died at Mokopane Hospital while other three were admitted at Voortrekker hospital. One of the three patients passed away and the second patient has been referred to Mankweng hospital’s Intensive Care Unit [ICU]. The third patient is receiving treatment and is still recuperating at the Voortrekker Hospital.”

At this stage we suspect organophosphate poisoning, however, our Waterberg District’s Outbreak Response Team together with the Municipal Enviroment Officials are currently on site for further investigation, adds Kganyago.
The department appeals to all the parents to be vigilant and to make sure their children do not eat any other food picked in the street.”
