Serobi Maja bids the Limpopo Gambling Board farewell after 16 years

Employees and colleagues of Maja bade him farewell at Meropa Casino on Friday, 27 October

POLOKWANE – Guests spoke of the connections Maja made over the years and his influence on people’s lives from all walks of life.

Linda Ganess, who had been working with Maja for 14 years, said he is a man who loves telling jokes and who is just as much fun as he is serious.

Beauty Mutheiwana (HOD for Education) and Florence Mabunda bid Serobi Maja farewell at Sun Meropa Casino.

“He is a firm but fair man and he gets things done. He stands his ground, once he has taken his position he has taken it,” she said.

Pinky Kekana, Clifford Motsepe and MEC’s such as Jerry Ndou, on behalf of the premier, and Ishmael Kgetjepe showed their support and appreciation of Maja and the impact he has made on their lives.

Maja’s influence even brought the former leader of the ANC Youth League and current President of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, to the function to say his farewells.

Maja also received well wishes from outside the country with Heavens Simbarashe Gonga, the CEO of the Zimbabwe Gambling and Lotteries Board, who on behalf of the Gambling Regulators of Africa Forum (Graf), presented him with the Zimbabwe coat of arms for all he has done over the years.

“The role he played internationally and locally is there for all to see, we applaud a great man,” Gonga said.

Acting Premier, Jerry Ndou, thanks Serobi Maja for his hard work and dedication during the years he served the Limpopo government.

Ndou, acting Premier of Limpopo, greeted Maja and thanked him for all his hard work. “The board will be poorer without you and the people who you leave behind must water the seeds you planted and bear the fruit of your labour. “You are a man of impeccable character and we can learn a lot from you. As the board we thank you for your contribution, your career reflects the dedication you have and your honesty. We wish you a wonderful retirement and hope we can still count on you when we need you,” Ndou said.

“We have listened to what you have said and as a family we thank the government for giving him the opportunity to make a difference. He has never worked for himself but always for the public. He was born to serve and serve he did,” a family representative said.

Serobi Maja receives the Zimbabwe coat of arms from Heavens Simbarashe Gonga (Zimbabwe Gambling and Lotteries Board, CEO) to thank him for his years of service.

Maja took to the stage to receive gifts from his colleagues among which was a coffee table book from his personal assistant of the past 11 years, Adelé Koekemoer, containing photos of all his achievements.

“Thank you to everyone who supported me and helped me make these years a success, and those who helped to make me a success. I thank my wife for being my pillar of strength throughout the years and I bid you farewell with enormous pride,” Maja said. “If we meet again, I hope it is with a smile, if not, let this farewell be a good goodbye.”
