14-year-old girl raped, educator remanded in custody

The 51-year-old educator from Ritavi faces a charge of rape

LIMPOPO – The accused in this matter, a 51-year-old educator from Ritavi, appeared before the Nkowankowa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday) and was remanded in custody.

The suspect faces a charge of rape and will reappear before the same same court on 23 October 2017 for a formal bail application, says Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Police investigations continue.


LIMPOPO – Police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the victim was travelling in the suspect’s vehicle on Friday afternoon, 13 October, on her way home from school.

The suspect stopped at a shop to buy something and on the way, stopped the car and raped the girl inside the vehicle.

He later escorted her home.

“The matter was later reported to the police, who reacted swiftly and arrested the suspect,” he said.

The suspect will appear before the Ritavi Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 17 October, on a charge of rape.

The Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Nneke Ledwaba has condemned acts of criminality perpetrated against children which are still taking place in parts of Limpopo.

“Child safety must be everybody’s business within our society, especially teachers, who are expected to play a secondary parental role to any child,” he concluded.
