Baroka FC’s Oscarine Masuluke nominated for 2017 FIFA Puskas Award
Masuluke was nominated for Goal of the Year for his stunner against Orlando Pirates.
POLOKWANE – Baroka FC’s goalkeeper scored a stoppage-time equaliser with a bicycle kick against Orlando Pirates on 1 November, 2016.
Masuluke latched onto Orlando Pirates keeper Thapelo Mabokgwane’s poor punched clearance, let the ball bounce once on top of the penalty area, before unleashing an overhead kick with his back to goal into the top corner over Mabokgwane and two Orlando Pirates defenders.
The Puskás Award is awarded to the player, male or female, judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, goal of the year.
The criteria is as follows:
- It should be a beautiful goal (subjective — the spread of goals should include long-range shots, team goals, overhead kicks, individual plays, etc.).
- It should support fair play, i.e. the player should not have behaved badly in the game or have been charged with doping, for example.
- It should not be the result of luck, mistakes, deflection by another player or the player in a offside position.
- It should be awarded “without distinction of championship, gender or nationality
