Mokumong Foundation nurtures young talent

The foundation is a non-profit organisation based in Ga-Molepo which focuses on developing the Molepo community through sports, charity and education.

POLOKWANE – The organisation was founded in 2012 with offices at Tshebela High School and has hosted successful annual sports tournaments in soccer, netball, athletics and volleyball among others.

“During these sport tournaments we identify talented young players who we try by all means possible to expose to bigger and broader platforms where they can be recognised and nurtured in their respective sporting skills, abilities and talents so they can make a better life for themselves and their families. Most of these young people come from underprivileged backgrounds and rely solely and such opportunities for a better life. When recognised they are then able to nurture their talents and grow in those fields,” explains Frans Moremi Mosana, Mokumong Foundation Chairperson.

The organisation functions solely on a donation basis to help these communities better their lives through motivational talks and donations from businesses in the community.

“We have received donations from businesses people who offer a helping hand through incentives such as free drivers’ licences from Stanley’s Driving School, monetary donations from George Senosha of Pick n Pay Soshanguve. The best players selected are then chosen to play friendly games with Premier Soccer League teams such as Polokwane City, Baroka, University of Pretoria and SuperSport United to give them a feel of what the real world of football is like. As Mokumong Foundation, we have created a healthy relationship with the above PSL teams,” said George Legobu Molepo, Mokumong Foundation Marketing Manager.

The Mokumong Foundation also does charity work where they collect and donate food parcels to the needy in the Molepo community. They have been doing this since 2013 with the help of Gift of the Givers and also help residents to find employment. With the assistance of Nedbank, the organisation buys school uniforms which they donate to 20 identified underprivileged learners every year.
