Hamman Time tour comes to Limpopo

Nick Hamman visited Polokwane and the SABC studios as part of his 20-day Hammam Time Heritage Tour.

POLOKWANE – Nick Hamman, the popular voice of Hamman Time broadcasted weekdays from 09:00 to 12:00 on 5FM, visited Polokwane and the SABC studios as part of his 20-day Hammam Time Heritage Tour.

The tour, which started in North West on 1 September, is set to be held throughout South Africa.

Hamman wishes to take listeners on a South African journey to celebrate Heritage Month and to show them what makes South Africa great.

He made headlines last year when he walked to Polokwane for the station’s Small Town Live Loud event in April. Now he and his producer Mike Bossenger (Mad Money Mike) travel through the nine provinces, spending at least two days in each, as they learn more about the heritage in the cities and small towns.

Hamman Time broadcasts the tour live every day and encourages listeners to promote their province by engaging with the show and sharing their stories. The tour aims to deliver a unique experience as it takes a look at the rich culture and history South Africa has to offer. In conjunction with the live broadcasts, listeners can follow the tour on the station’s various social media platforms for interviews, videos and images.

Hamman told Review on Monday he had already visited North West and Pilanesberg for their first pit stop, where he also learned how to make mampoer after which the tour programme was followed by Limpopo. From here they are going to Mpumalanga, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal, Free State, Eastern Cape and Northern Cape before reaching the Western Cape just before Heritage Day.

While in Limpopo the duo visited Magoebaskloof, the big Baobab, the Modjadji reserve and they were on their way to visit Mapungubwe.

He was born in Rondebosch in the Cape, studied politics at the University of Stellenbosch, met his current producer Mike and fell in love with radio. He started with Hamman Time in 2014 and it is one of the fastest growing and most popular radio shows currently, aimed at the young and young at heart.

“While Cape Town is the city of my heart, Johannesburg is the city of my soul,” he said. “Johannesburg’s got energy and is the springboard where everything happened in my life, where the connections and contacts were forged that led me to expand and travel the country. I enjoy what I am doing so much, telling stories, meeting people and spreading their messages that I want to keep on doing it, whether it is here or abroad.” He did broadcasting stunts in the UK and Mauritius, travelled African countries and would love to work in the United States too.

“The media loves negativity, and that sells, but I want to challenge people’s perceptions. We have looked forward to this Heritage Tour for a long time and now is the best time to do it as we celebrate our heritage in September.”
