Books to the city’s library by female writers

The Municipality continued to celebrate Women's Month through the achievements of local women who are strong enough to share their life experiences through writing.

POLOKWANE – Three local female authors shared the inspiration behind their writing, encountered in different stages of their lives, with other women during the Women Authors Exhibition. Copies of three books were also handed over to the City Library.

The books namely Neglected by M S Feza, Before, during and after the wedding by Keneilwe Mabapa and What do you see by Itumeleng Sekhu, express the life struggles of women on a daily basis in Limpopo and South Africa. The authors hail from Polokwane.

Polokwane readers can visit municipal libraries to read the mind-triggering books with the aim of being empowered. The books cover a variety of issues ranging from trafficking, gangsterism, abuse, addiction, suicide and good and bad results of marriage encountered by women.

The Member of the Mayoral Council (MMC) for Sport and Recreation, Josephine Maja, said books donated to the city libraries are an indication that women are empowered to talk about their struggles openly without fear in the year of the 61st anniversary of the march to the Union Buildings in 1956.

“Today we have women authors who are able to share their experiences, motivation and inspire other women who are afraid to speak out against any type of abuse in society,” she said.

Maja further encouraged other women within the city to inspire others by sharing their life journeys through writing as a way of breaking free.

City Library Manager for Cultural Services, Stefan Bosman, welcomed the books and said they will be distributed in all municipal libraries. He said library users will be able to access and read them at their local libraries.
