ANC ready for forthcoming provincial conference

The ANC's provincial conference will be held at the University of Limpopo this weekend from February 14 to 16.

POLOKWANE – The ANC’s provincial conference will be held at the University of Limpopo this weekend from February 14 to 16.

The conference was supposed to be held last year in December, but was postponed.

ANC provincial task team (PTT) coordinator, Joy Matshoge, said the party was now ready for the conference. She said the leadership that emerged after the conference would take over from the provincial task team that had been in control for the past 11 months.

“The task team’s term was rocky and filled with potholes. The first major decision taken by them was to disband the regional executive committees of Mopani, Peter Mokaba and Sekhukhune, and replace them with regional task teams. It was a politically correct move that enabled the PTT to gain control of the ANC structures in the province,” she said.

“The PTT managed to deliver five regional conferences in the Peter Mokaba, Mopani, Sekhukhune, Vhembe and Waterberg regions over the last six months. This weekend the era of the PTT in Limpopo will come to an end.

“The branches of the ANC in their hundreds and members in their thousands will descend on Turfloop this weekend in order to exercise their organisational and constitutional mandate and debate policy issues as well as electing a provincial leadership that will lead the organisation till 2018. We wish for the president of the ANC to return to Turfloop and complete his project by witnessing the demise of the PTT and the birth of a new provincial executive committee,” she said.

“At the provincial conference, the PTT convenor will deliver his political report, while the coordinator will outline the state of the organisation. The PTT treasurer will lay out the state of the finances of the organisation.”
