Jama Dance duo bring home gold
Adelaide Hlungwani and Thabo Bruce Nojaja recently competed in the GrandSlam Sedibe Dance Challenge in Vereeniging.
POLOKWANE – The duo took part in the World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) Grand Slam Sedibe Dance Challenge on Saturday, 22 July.
They received a gold medal after placing first in the competition.
Adelaide and Thabo say they found it a challenge to compete nationally, but say they feel that they have improved their dancing skills.

“All dancers on the floor are quite serious and professional about what they do. There are other dancers on the floor or in the competition that take or consider dance as a career. For my partner and I to have our jobs and dance as a career is more challenging for us because we have to multitask, go to work from morning till the afternoon, and in the evening we have to meet up at the studio to rehearse for our tournaments and competitions,” Adelaide added.
Thabo says they spent days rehearsing for the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) GrandSlam Sedibe Dance Challenge.
“We had rehearsed every night after work, making sure that we get the steps right and to perfect our dance routines. Though it was a bit tiring and challenging to get ready for the dance competitions, we were more than ready to compete. Non-the-less, I am very proud of our work and I’m sure our mentor is very proud of us for bringing back the gold to our city,” Thabo added.
During the competition, Adelaide and Thabo danced the Cha-cha, Samba, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, Salsa, and ballroom dance styles.
