Opening doors for the youth

Thomas Setati (26) and his friends are out to show the youth of today it is possible prosper through sport.

POLOKWANE – Youth activist and one of the organisers of the Lim Youth Movement organisation, Thomas Setati (26), founded the Temosho Super Stars soccer team with his friends.

The team was formed in Ivy Park in December 2015 and has since gone from strength to strength.

“As a team we have won many medals and trophies while playing in matches in and around Polokwane,” he said.

“During 2015 we would go from door-to-door asking for donations of R10 so that we would be able to buy soccer gear and equipment.”

Setati adds that his role within the youth organisation and the soccer team is to inspire and help young boys make healthy and positive choices that will eventually lead them to lifelong success, and initiating social change to make a difference in themselves and their communities.

The team won a tournament against seven extensions and their success was recognised by Foodzone, Ivy Park who took an active interest in the boys and decided to fund the winning team.

“Foodzone played a big role by sponsoring trophies and medals.

“They donated food so the boys could learn from a young age to become breadwinners and not alcoholics.”

He said the medals and trophies were meant to uplift the boys’ spirits to work as a team to become the next generation of award winners by practicing their sport and having a winning and positive attitude in life.

Thomas Setati founded the Temosho Super Stars soccer club to motivate the youth to stay off the streets and do something positive with their lives.

“We also had a youth meeting on 16 June, where we motivated the youth to stop being idle and to prepare their CV’s instead, as there are business developments in our area and they should be prepared to work in the offices to gather experience.

“I would like to thank Chipape R’mando and Tharaka Ronald from Foodzone for always being there for us and for their support in making a success of the events.

“We also thank the ANC for taking part in some of our events and meetings. And lastly, we hope that the municipality would assist in improving our soccer team in every way possible,” he concluded.
