The community of Zone 1 caught the man after the mother of the child screamed for help.

POLOKWANE – Police in Seshego are investigating a case of kidnapping after a man attempted to kidnap a 5-year-old girl on Sunday, 11 May.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe says the man took the child at knife point and ran into the nearby bushes.

The child’s mother screamed for help to which the local community responded in large numbers and followed the suspect until he put the child down and ran into the river.

“The community perused the suspect, caught him and assaulted him with various objects. The police were notified, reacted swiftly and rescued the suspect,” says Ngoepe.

The suspect was taken to hospital with multiple serious injuries.

The mother and her child were not injured during this incident and investigations continue.
