No casualties after bus catches fire
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the damage to the bus is still being assessed - Polokwane Great North Transport Marketing and Communications Manager
POLOKWANE – The fire that broke out on one of the Great North Transport buses is nothing to worry about, says Polokwane Great North Transport Marketing and Communications Manager.
A fire reportedly started at the front of a moving bus yesterday evening, Monday, 29 May on the corner of Magazyn and Jorrisen streets. Passengers reported seeing smoke and flames coming from the front of the bus. The bus driver pulled over and brought the bus to a stop while passengers broke open the emergency exit doors and windows and exited the bus.
No injuries were reported.
One of the passengers spoke to Review.
“I was looking outside the window when I saw the smoke from the front of the bus and then it turned into flames. I could not believe that this was happening, then passengers started screaming, breaking the emergency windows,” Lillian Mahepa explained.
The fire department and police were on the scene within minutes and the fire was quickly extinguished. All the passengers made it out of the bus and watched the event unfold from the pavement.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and the damage to the bus is still being assessed.
