Modimolle ‘warthog hunter’ out on bail

The 39-year-old hunter who allegedly shot and killed a Modimolle farm worker while hunting, appeared in the Modimolle Magistrate's Court today (Friday).

LIMPOPO -The 39-year-old hunter who allegedly shot and killed a Modimolle farm worker was granted R15 00 bail in the Modimolle Magistrate’s Court today (Friday).

The accused and a female hunter were hunting warthog “bosvark” on Meisiesvlei farm, Tuinplaas outside Modimolle on 11 February, when he heard a movement in a bush nearby and fired a shot in the direction.

Jan Railo (23) a worker from Waltlandgoed farm, a neighbouring farm, was shot in the back and died on the scene.

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Motlafelo Mojapelo says the accused was granted bail with certain conditions.

“He must report to the Sinoville Police Station every Monday and Friday and must hand in his passport. He is also not allowed to go on or near the farm where the incident took place or speak to or contact the farm workers on the farm.”

The case has been postponed to 20 April 2017 to allow for further police investigation.

There were few protesters outside court but no violence took place, concluded Mojapelo.
