Matric results take Lim ANC out of ‘comfort zone’
The ANC has stressed their discomfort with the "less than satisfactory" results from the Capricorn and Sekhukhune districts.
LIMPOPO- The ANC in Limpopo, congratulated the Class of 2016 who passed the National Senior Certificate, on Thursday, but stressed their discomfort with the “less than satisfactory” results from the Capricorn and Sekhukhune districts.
ANC Provincial Secretary Nocks Seabi said much more needs to be done to improve the situation. “Learners in those districts deserve better,” he said. During the provincial announcement of NSC 2016 results at Bolivia Lodge on Thursday, MEC for Education, Ishmael Kgetjepe stated that Capricorn ranked fourth overall in the province with a 60.9% pass rate and Sekhukhune in fifth place with a 51.8% pass rate. This meant that the Capricorn district dropped from third position in 2015 to fourth position in 2016.
However, despite their discomfort, the ANC commended the hard work, commitment and sacrifice made by the Class of 2016 saying they have done well to prepare for the next phase in preparation for their futures. They also encouraged those who did not pass not to despair and to restart the journey with more vigour and determination.
Seabi also acknowledged both Vhembe and Waterberg districts for their good performances. “Vhembe continues to put up a brave and exceptional performance above all other districts. We congratulate them and urge them to continue the good work,” he said. On Waterberg, Seabi said they were impressed with the improvements made in 2016. “There is still a long way to go but we commend this as a step in the right direction,” he said.
Vuwani under the spotlight
Although making headlines yet again for a leaked NSC exam, Vuwani was congratulated as well by the ANC for their 68% pass rate, despite what Seabi says were difficult conditions. “68% is a fairly good result, however, the ANC is less comfortable with the fact that it represents a drop 71% from the previous year. We urge the Department of Education to look into all factors leaders to this decline and make necessary interventions,” said Seabi.
The party also thanked the department, teachers, learners and parents for their contributions towards creating an environment conducive to learning throughout 2016.
