Local store manager nabbed for robbing own store

The investigation led to the arrest of his 28-year-old accomplice, says the police

POLOKWANE – A local store manager and his 28-year-old accomplice were arrested after he reported a ‘robbery’ at his store to the police yesterday (Tuesday), says the police.

According to a statement issued by Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo, the said man, a 24-year-old manager at a clothing store in a local mall in Mankweng, reported the alleged robbery early on Tuesday morning.

“He alleged at around 09:30 he was confronted by an unknown suspect armed with a pistol and was ordered to open the safe and hand over the money. Upon an intense investigation by the Mankweng Task Team together with the detectives, facts started coming to light that he might have organized the robbery,” said Mojapelo.

This  investigation led to the arrest of his 28-year-old accomplice at ga-Magowa village… all money taken during the alleged robbery was also recovered.

The assistant manager together with his accomplice are expected to appear before Mankweng Magistrate Court today (Wednesday) on robbery charges. The assistant manager will face an additional charge of perjury for lying under oath, added Mojapelo.

“The police management in the province condemns this type of conduct in the strongest possible  terms, as state resources that could have been deployed somewhere else have been used in investigating this false case. Similar persons will be exposed and dealt with mercilessly.”
