Fire rips through home amid heavy downpour

Local resident loses all his possessions after lightening strikes home

POLOKWANE – While many residents must add water damage to their list of expenses after yesterday’s heavy rainfall wreaked havoc in the city, a man lost everything when lightning struck a grass lapa, causing a fire which spread to his home.

According to eyewitnesses along the Louis Trichardt road, the lapa immediately caught fire and spread to the man’s home, which he rents from a local businessman, and destroyed everything in the building. The estimated cost to replace and repair the residence is R5 million.
The lessor has urged residents to assist Pieter Blignaut with donations of any kind as he lost all his possessions in the fire.

Those who would like to assist Blignaut can contact Riana Joubert on 015 293 9453. Alternatively, get in contact with us on our Facebook page Nmg Northern Review.
