ANC councillor survives attempt on his life

Mashabela was ambushed by three men while visiting his girlfriend at her home

POLOKWANE – Polokwane Police Spokesperson, Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe, confirmed there was an attempt on ANC councillor, Steve Mashabela’s life recently.

Ngoepe said cases of kidnapping and attempted murder were opened after the incident occurred.

Mashabela almost lost his life on 3 November at Koena Moloto, Seshego. He was with his girlfriend at her home when three men, travelling in a vehicle with Gauteng number plates, gained entry to the home and attacked Mashabela.

Two of the men entered the home through a window and attempted to drug Mashabela. They tied his hands together with cable ties, put him in his vehicle and proceeded to pour petrol over it. The men set the vehicle alight with Mashabela still inside.

“I was fortunate enough not to have swallowed the drug. I managed to get loose by biting through my constraints and opened the car door with my foot,” Mashabela told Review. He said he fled into nearby bushes as soon as he escaped from the burning vehicle.

Mashabela’s girlfriend was left unharmed during the attack. She has opened a case of housebreaking.

Police urge anyone with information relating to the matter to report it at the Seshego police station.
