SAPS investigating several cases of ATM theft

POLOKWANE – Robberies at ATMs in the city are on the increase and Review has reported on many of these incidences in the past. Several victims stated two men approached them while they were in the process of withdrawing money.
Polokwane Police Spokesperson, WO Lesiba Ramoshaba said they are looking at increasing their visibility and they call on residents and business owners to be mindful of their surroundings and report suspicious people near ATM’s. He said the cases are being investigated but police but that there had been no arrests made yet.

He urges residents with information on people planning to commit these and other crimes, to come forward.
He said ATM thefts can be prevented if residents do the following:
• Be alert when using an ATM.
• Never give your ATM PIN code or bank card to anyone.
• Never insert a bank card into an ATM machine unless instructed to do so.
• Never use an ATM with a blank screen.
• Immediately call the toll free stop card line if your card is swallowed or you suspect your personal information has been leaked.
