Athlete mom a real life wonderwoman

After only four years of training this wonderwoman won a medal in the recent Arnold Classics Africa competition.

POLOKWANE – She won in the women’s Strict Arm Curl category.

Liana Fourie a dedicated mother, personal trainer and athlete has trained herself for the last four years and describes herself as a person who does not give up.  “I used to work in an office and I wasn’t satisfied with myself, my work or my life. Everything changed after I discovered bodybuilding,” Liana explains.

“If you want to look better, feel better and have a life where you feel fulfilled, working out is the way to go.”

Liana is a personal trainer to both men and women of all ages at the gym she opened a year ago. “I love helping people and giving them the opportunity to better themselves,” she explains.
“There is always another goal and you can challenge yourself as much as you want to.”

She says she would like to be an inspiration to people and women in general and believes people should not let others get in their way or talk them down.

Her advice to women in a male dominated sport is to not pay any mind to people who believe women don’t belong in that sport. “You can do anything you set your mind to and you should always believe in yourself and your abilities.”

According to Liana, many people believe women in bodybuilding do it to look butch, but this is not the case. “Women have told me that they are intimidated by me. I do not believe this and I do not believe that I am being butch. I believe that you are who you want to be.” Her plans for the future include building more muscle and becoming even stronger.

Whenever she has some free time, she spends it with her husband and their son, Dian, doing fun things together such as playing board games and watching movies.

Her inspirational message is that very few people, especially women, ever realise what they are capable of. People die thinking they have done all they can do. “You are able to do much more than you realise and all it takes to achieve your full potential is for you to make  the first move,” she says.
