Pumping iron at Arnold Classic Africa
Local arm wrestling club, Lynx Arm Wrestling, competed at the Arnold Classics on May 28 June. The results for Lynx Arm Wrestling at the Arnold Classics:
POLOKWANE – The highly anticipated annual multi sport festival and expo, the Arnold Classic Africa, recently took place and local athletes jumped at the opportunity to show off their skills and flex their muscles.
Local arm wrestling club, Lynx Arm Wrestling, competed at the Arnold Classics where South African Arm Wrestling Federation (SAAWF) President, Danie Fourie, won a gold medal.
The results for Lynx Arm Wrestling at the Arnold Classics:
Men u/80 kg:
• Martin van Wyk won second place in both the left- and right-hand categories.
• Michael du Toit finished in fourth place in the left-hand category and seventh place in the right-hand category.
Men u/100 kg:
• Danie Fourie won first place in both the left- and right-hand categories.
• Christopher Nel finished in fifth place in the left-hand category.
• Beyl du Bruyn finished in 12th position in the right-hand category and 13th place in the left-hand category.
Men over 100 kg:
• Hendrik Fourie finished in third place for the left-hand category and in fifth place for the right-hand category.
The women from B Unique Fitness and Lynx showed what they were made of when they competed in the Strict Arm Curl Competition.
Both Liana Fourie and Zelda Hamman did well with Zelda winning bronze and Liana gold medals. Liana set a new South African record with her strict arm curl of 35 kg, only missing the world record by 1 kg. She plans to up her training regime and set a new world record next year.
Danie had the opportunity to meet legendary professional bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger at the expo.
This weekend Danie, Beyl, Liana and Zelda will take part in the Strongmen vs Cross-fit at the Polokwane Showgrounds, and they invite everyone to come and show their support. There will be an arm wrestling competition where residents can test their mettle.
“We will compete against some of the strongest men and women in the country this weekend. Come and be a part of the action, vet your skills and help us promote the sport,” Liana said.
