3 more lions poisoned, mutilated

The police are asking for the public's assistance with the investigation into the recent killings of lions on farms in Limpopo.

LIMPOPO – Three more lions have been reportedly poisoned with their heads and paws removed, says provincial police spokesperson, Col Lt Ronel Otto.

This follows the recent poisoning and mutilation of two white female lions on a farm in the Lepahalale area.

According to Otto, the lions’ carcasses were discovered last week on game farm in Groblersdal and on Monday on a farm in Bela Bela.

“One lion was found poisoned on a game farm in the Groblersdal area, while two lions (male and female) were found poisoned and shot on a farm in the Bela Bela area. All three lions’ heads and paws were removed,” said Otto.

No arrests have been made and investigations into all incidents continue, she added.

Anybody who has any information that can assist with the investigation into these incidents is requested to contact Capt Dave Retief of the Limpopo Provincial Stock Theft at 082 319 9460.
