Moosa kidnapping: suspects granted bail

After three weeks the bail application of three suspects accused of Kidnapping Anisan Moosa (36) earlier this year concluded on Thursday morning in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court.

POLOKWANE – Moosa was kidnapped outside her uncle’s home in Nirvana in March and was held hostage while the kidnappers demanded ransom from her family after which a rescue operation led to her safe return.

Samuel Kubo (28), Masilo Elias Gafane (33) and Benny Mudau (34) faces charges of hijacking and the attempted murder of three police officers, who were shot during the rescue operation.

According to provincial Hawks Spokesperson, Lt Matimba Maluleke the suspects have been granted bail of R10 000 each with strict conditions attached, which include reporting at the nearest police station every Thursday.

Other conditions include not to interfere with the investigation in anyway, not to contact or intimidate the witnesses in this case, and not to exit the borders of South Africa without the permission of the investigator.

According to a statement release by family spokesperson and anti-crime activist, Yusuf Abramjee; “We are disappointed that the magistrate granted bail of R10 o00 each to the three men. We have no option but to respect the decision of the court and now look forward to the speedy finalisation of the trial. We want to see justice take its course.”

The case was postponed to 24 June for further investigation.
