Firebirds fencers leave their fencing mark once again

Firebirds Fencing Club once again showed why they have some of the top fencers, not only in Limpopo but, in South Africa.

POLOKWANE – Three Firebirds fencers along with their coach, Wally Goosen, attended the Bloemfontein National Fencing Championships where they scarred their competition.

Charl Venter earned the seventh place spot for senior men’s foil and third place for junior men’s foil. Wally showed his students how its done by also competing and earning the 11th place spot in senior men’s foil, third place in veterans men’s foil and eight place in the veterans épée.

Micheal Butler, thanks to a sponsorship from Westvaal Polokwane, was also able compete and did not disappoint as she brought two medals home; bronze for junior women’s foil and silver for cadet women’s foil. Another fencer who also impressed was Cailyn Duncan, as she showed off her talent by earning a silver medal in the junior women’s foil.

Two other fencers from Firebirds Fencing Club, Moné McCabe and Anerique van der Walt are presently representing South Africa at the World Junior and Cadets Fencing Championships in France.
