Geldenhuys assault case postponed

Three men charged with the assault of 35-year-old Paul Geldenhuys at a pub in Haenertsburg appeared before the Haenertsburg Periodical Court on Tuesday (Yesterday).

POLOKWANE – The case has been postponed to 28 June and bail extended.

Geldenhuys suffered injuries to his face, neck and right side of the body during the assault at The Iron Crown Pub & Bistro in Haenertsburg on 4 March.

According to an eyewitness whose identity is protected by Review, the group of young men who assaulted Geldenhuys was “looking for trouble with patrons at the pub”.

“At some stage, the owner of the pub even asked them to settle their bill and leave.

“We know them well, they are known troublemakers in pub circles,” the person claimed.

The owner of Iron Crown, Linda Halkon, declined to comment on the matter, only saying behaviour such as was witnessed on the evening in question, is not encouraged by the management of Iron Crown.

The officer in the case WO Khoza, earlier confirmed that two of the men who were previously arrested on 8 March were released on R3000 bail each after their first court appearance in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court.

The third accused who handed himself over to the police at a later stage was granted bail of the same amount.

The names of the accused cannot be released as they have not pleaded.
