CPF safety tips and emergency numbers

POLOKWANE – Following the assault of a woman in the city earlier this week, a spokesperson for one of the CPFs, Karen Botha, has once again urged the community to join their local CPF.

“It is important that people be informed of the CPF in their area and for them to join, as most of the time the CPF can respond to a situation faster than the police.

Patrolling CPF members receive training so that they know what to do at a crime scene to preserve it until the police arrive,” Botha explained.

Botha further said that in fighting crime, prevention is just as important.

The CPFs gave some safety tips for people who work late and have to return home in the dark:

1. Make sure that lights are on when working late.

2. Close and lock all outside doors to ensure no one can enter the building.

3. Join your local CPF and make sure to have the standby phone number close at hand or have a two-way radio and be in direct contact with them.

4. When there is a suspicion that something is wrong, call on the CPF in your area and a patrol car can be send out.

5. Phone the police as soon as possible.

6. Park your vehicle in a safe area, not far from the office, or let a family member pick you up.
