The N1 North near the Solomondale off-ramp has been blocked by protesting taxi drivers - police ask motorists to be patient

POLOKWANE – Local and long distance taxi drivers blocked the N1 North near the Solomondale off-ramp in their clash over routes and commuters.

Limpopo police spokesperson, Capt Nthobeng Phala confirmed that the N1 route was blocked and the Public Order Police are at the scene trying to keep peace.

“The road can be cleared at any time and we appeal to motorists to be patient at this moment,” said Phala.

Spokesperson for the Limpopo department of transport, Kagiso Mootane said MEC Mapula Mokaba Phukwana was supposed to have a meeting with the leaders from different taxi association in Polokwane but they didn’t pitch-up.

“It is shocking that they vented their anger by closing the N1 North between Botlokwa and the offramp for Solomondale. Our officers are at the scene trying to make peace. The route is still blocked,” said Mootane.
