Woman Against Rape raise awareness in the east

The main aim of the Jazz in the Garden was to support rape survivors, abused children and the less privileged.

The Woman Against Rape (WAR) organisation hosted the Jazz in the Garden event in Waterkloof Ridge on Sunday afternoon.

Sunday’s event was not just about people coming together for beer, food and good music, but also to raise funds and awareness.

Linette Lintvelt, the spokesperson for WAR, said that the main aim was to support rape survivors, abused children and the less privileged.

The organisation was founded 17 years ago by Janine Rowley, a business executive and model, who once walked the international ramps for top designer fashion brands.

Today, she walks alongside rape victims, abused and molested children, the elderly and the very poor in less privileged communities.

Rowley comforts, cares and uplifts people through feeding schemes, educational programmes, skills identification and training projects, awareness campaigns and sustainable community development projects.

She said this month is not just about celebrating women, but also celebrating rape survivors.
