An animated adventure for the whole family, edge-of-your-seat action, drama and comedy are among the new movies opening at Nu Metro cinemas in Pretoria this week.

DUCK DUCK GOOSE (PG V)

Showing at all Nu Metro cinemas

From the makers of Shrek comes this animated adventure telling the story of two orphaned ducklings, who are separated from their flock by the over-enthusiastic flying antics of Peng, a freewheeling bachelor goose who’d rather practice aerial acrobatics than join the other geese preparing for their annual migration. Peng badly injures his wing leaving him alone and vulnerable to prey. It is then that he agrees to help the kids get back to their flock, realising that walking with them provides the perfect cover to hide his injury. This is a story not just about finding your way through the obstacles of a long and difficult journey, this is ultimately the story of finding your way through the trials of life, of fatherhood, of responsibility to your community, and of family.

When the storm blows up into a lethal Category 5 and their well-made plans go awry, they find themselves needing a vault code known only by one female Treasury agent—a need that turns murderous. But, the agent has picked up an unlikely ally—a meteorologist terrified of hurricanes but determined to save an estranged brother who was kidnapped by the thieves. He uses his knowledge of the storm as a weapon to defeat the bad guys.

TAG (16 DLV)

Showing at Nu Metro Menlyn and Woodlands

For one month every year, five highly competitive friends hit the ground running in a no-holds-barred game of tag they’ve been playing since first grade—risking their necks, their jobs and their relationships to take each other down with the battle cry: “You’re It!” This year, the game coincides with the wedding of their only undefeated player, which should finally make him an easy target. But he knows they’re coming… and he’s ready.

LOVE, SIMON (13 DL)

Showing in VIP luxury at Nu Metro Parkview and Menlyn Park

Everyone deserves a great love story. But, for 17-year-old Simon Spier, it’s a little more complicated: He’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay, and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online. Resolving both issues proves hilarious, terrifying and life-changing. Critics worldwide have hailed Love, Simon as a charming coming-of-age drama treading new ground.
