Titans Cricket Union gets new president

Damien Weidemann, who has played a huge leadership role at the Eersterust cricket club over the years, was recently elected as the Titans Cricket Union's new president.

Titans Cricket Union (formally Northerns Cricket Union) has stepped into a new era after they held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) at SuperSport Park recently.

It was a historic evening for the union that saw a change of guard in their President from Tebogo Siko to Damien Weidemann.

Weidemann’s election as Board President was a conventional progression seeing that he served as Siko’s deputy for the past three years, highlighting stability and continuity at board level.

Ashley Dau, from Atteridgeville Cricket Club, previously a non-independent member elected onto the board in 2023 was elected as Board Vice President.

A leap was taken within the board structure with three of five the new members who will serve on the Titans Cricket Union Board being women and four of the ten board members women of colour with an equal split of five men and five women making up the board.

Since 1973 Titans Cricket has bestowed Christie Vlok awards to administrators who have served with distinction within various roles in the Titans Cricket structures. The 2024 AGM saw this award being given to former Titans Cricket Chief Operations Officer, Patricia Kambarami, Willem Du Toit and William Ndomo.

Sollie Barnard, a legendary administrator at Tuks Cricket, became an Honorary Member following the conclusion of his term on the board.

Former Board President, Tebogo Siko, became the first person of colour to be awarded an Honorary Life Membership of Titans Cricket.

“What a historic day at the AGM,” exclaimed Titans Cricket CEO Dr Jacques Faul.

Faul spoke highly of Siko, having served under him throughout his tenure.

“He had such a fantastic six years, it’s been a great run and I’m proud of everything he’s achieved,” Faul said.

The new non-independent board members are Willem du Toit, Tsholofelo Jewawa, John Wright and Pierre Coetzer.

The  independent board members are Pat Semenya, Bianca M. Joseph, Kholo Makgoka and Namhla Dilizo.
