Wingate Park grows from strength to strength

After several upgrades and improvements, the Wingate Park Country Club is going from strength to strength and the bowling club at Wingate Park is especially very popular among players.

Wingate Park Country Club has scored another remarkable achievement.

Earlier this year, the 70-year-old club’s golf course was recently named South Africa’s 59rd best by the authoritative monthly golf magazine Golf Digest.

This achievement puts Wingate Park in a position not only to compete with the best golf courses in Pretoria but also in all of Gauteng. It follows on the heels of the compliment the club received earlier from readers of a daily newspaper in Gauteng, which named it the best in Pretoria East.

Trevor Poole, events coordinator at Wingate Park told Rekord that the club is proud of its status among golfers, but it also worked hard to establish Wingate Park as a home for various sports. He said the club goes further than just offering different sports facilities. A new play area for kids has recently been completed at the clubhouse.

In addition to the golf club, which handled just over 50 000 rounds of golf last year, the club’s tennis courts were upgraded last year and a professional coach is closely involved in the tennis club.

A running club has recently been established at Wingate Park, and road runners, as well as athletes who participate in the popular trail running sport, can use the club’s extensive grounds to exercise in safety.

Wingate Park is also a popular destination for bowls players. The bowling club at Wingate Park has a large group of very active members and several major provincial and national tournaments are held annually on the five bowling greens at the club.

Wingate’s bowling club does not only offer top tournaments, but there are a lot of opportunities for members and friends to participate in various social tournaments. The club’s popular Just 3 Tournament was presented earlier this month.

Thirty teams of three players competed in singles, pairs and “trips”. All the matches were played over twelve heads and Andre and Isabell Rousseau and their daughter Marizell won the Just 3 trophy.
