Thrown under the bus

I am referring to the metro’s deal with taxi associations that taxis from the north would not operate beyond Wonderboom.

Disgruntled writes: It does not matter how one looks at it – you simply have to agree with commuters from Hammanskraal and surrounding areas.

Their recent protest is fully justified against being forced to use metro buses on the final leg of their daily journey into the city.

This is nothing but a form of unilateral social engineering. I am referring to the metro’s deal with taxi associations that taxis from the north would not operate beyond Wonderboom.

From that point, commuters have to use the A Re Yeng bus service to get into the city. The aim of the agreement is to ease traffic congestion in the city.

Commuters are particularly angry over reports that taxi operators are being compensated for the loss of business the deal brought. But what about the commuters? No one has consulted them on the move.

Who is compensating them for the disruption of their journey into town? Who is compensating them for the extra time they have to spend travelling?

They have simply been thrown under the proverbial bus. It is not surprising that they brought parts of Hammanskraal and the city to a standstill last week to highlight their unhappiness.

Is this is not supposed to be a democratic country?

Commuters should have a freedom of choice on how they want to get into the city
