AfriForum North of the Mountain team kick-started the year with a cleaning campaign in Pretoria North on Tuesday, January 9.
The clean-up saw the dedicated members of this branch, which got recognition as the best Afriforum branch for October 2023 in South Africa, collect tons of waste in the area.
The members cleaned up parks, removed all the litter, trimmed the grass, cut down tree branches and cleared out landfills to make the parks accessible and safe again.
Branch chairperson Quentin Meyer said the clean-up campaign, which is something it does regularly, diligently restored the streets of Pretoria North to their former glory.
He said the team cleared away debris and litter that had impaired the appearance of the north.
“This small efforts then make a significant impact,” Meyer said.
He said a better and cleaner environment is his goal for the north and vowed to continuously work on cleaning where the municipality cannot reach.
“The municipality clears the bins and cuts the trees on its schedule, but it is never enough so we are just putting extra hands to make our streets clean and good-looking.”
Meyer said if the community can work together, it can restore the area to its former glory.
“We humbly ask the community to refrain from creating small illegal dumpsites everywhere as this defeats our purpose of making this town great again.”
Meyer said AfriForum will continue to clean up and take on sustainable projects to make a real difference.
“We are sending a strong and clear message that we will not wait for the metro, but instead do the work ourselves to stop the north from decay.”
Meyer said the team will continue to clean the area and create more projects that will improve the well-being of the people.
