Bronkhorstspruit water plant shutdown

Tshwane metro dispatched roaming water tankers to all affected areas.

The Tshwane metro has announced a temporary shutdown of the Bronkhorstspruit water treatment plant due to deteriorating water quality as a result of the recent heavy rains.

Spokesperson Selby Bokaba said the situation will be monitored closely and once the water quality improves, the plant will return to operation.

He said during the shutdown, the following areas might experience low pressure to no water:

– Bronkhorstspruit

– Cultura Park

– Ekandustria

– Ekangala

– Masada

– Rethabiseng

– Riamarpark

– Thembisile Hani municipality

However, water tankers will be dispatched to all the above-mentioned affected areas.

“The City of Tshwane apologises profusely for the inconvenience that may be encountered as a result of this temporary shut-down,” said Bokaba.

Residents are urged to continue making the following water-conservation measures part of their normal lifestyle:

– do not water gardens with a hosepipe or sprinkler system between 06:00 and 18:00.

– do not wash a vehicle with a hosepipe.

– do not fill the swimming pool.

– instal a low-flow shower head and tap aerators where possible.

– use a dual-flush toilet cistern.

– plant indigenous or drought-resistant shrubs in the garden.

– use a broom instead of a hosepipe when cleaning driveways or patios.

– collect rainwater to reuse in the garden or wash the car.

– cover the swimming pool to reduce water evaporation.

– take a short shower rather than a bath.

– close the tap while brushing teeth or shaving.

– regularly check toilets and taps for leaks.

He said residents should continue using grey water to water gardens and flush toilets. Where possible, water-saving devices should be installed.

Bokaba further urged residents to report water leaks, burst pipes and all incidents of water wastage via the following numbers:

– no water supply, burst water pipes, leaking meters or blocked street sewers on 012 358 9999 or 080 1111 556

– illegal water connection on 012 358 9060

– non-payment on 012 345 8514

– account enquiries on 012 358 9999.
