Pretoria to experience heatwave conditions until Wednesday

Residents are advised to keep cool during these scorching conditions as the heatwave is expected to run from November 19 to November 22.

Pretoria residents are expected to experience heatwave conditions resulting in persistently high temperatures exceeding the average maximum.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has extended a heatwave advisory to vast parts of the Eastern Cape, the Lowveld of Mpumalanga, Limpopo Valley, and the Lowveld and Western Bushveld of Limpopo, persisting until Wednesday.

According to SAWS, a heatwave occurs when the maximum temperature of any area is 5 degrees or more above the average maximum of its “hottest month” for three days or more.

In a statement, SAWS said, “The public is advised to keep the body cool by wearing light and loose-fitting clothes, drinking water regularly, staying in shaded areas, and avoiding being in the sun for prolonged periods of time, as well as avoiding strenuous outside work.”

ER24 offers the following tips:
– Take it easy and don’t overexert yourself.
– Only go outside during the coolest time of the day, usually early in the morning and evening.
– Stay hydrated by drinking enough water.
– When outside, seek out shade.
– Wear loose, lightweight clothing.
– Take cool showers.
– Learn to recognise the signs of heat stroke, which include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fainting.
