UP ensemble inspires at Satma nominee event

Attendees embraced the opportunity to showcase their rich heritage, donning traditional attire in the hues of the rainbow nation.

The UP Ovuwa cultural ensemble was one of the acts to grace the stage at the South African Traditional Music Achievements (Satma) awards nominee ceremony at the SABC’s M1 studio in Auckland Park, Johannesburg on Saturday, September 30.

Awards founder Dumisani Goba paid tribute to South African freedom fighter, Solomon Kalushi Mahlangu, “for his role in elevating our culture and heritage”. The struggle activist who was born on July 10, 1956 was an operative of the ANC’s militant wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe and was convicted of murder and hanged in 1979.

Artist coordinator Keletso Dlamini said the event drew a vibrant mix of attendees, esteemed guests, and a multitude of musicians.

She said they embraced the opportunity to showcase their rich heritage, donning traditional attire in the hues of the rainbow.

Dlamini said the Fashion Kulture programme, which gave local designers the opportunity to showcase their work, contributed to the occasion with exquisite designs infused with an unmistakable touch of Africa.

She said the ensemble inspired all to celebrate their heritage and culture.

The audience was treated to electrifying performances by renowned artists, including Zuko, Amahle Miss Hilary, Amalethukuthula, Jeremiah Fyah Ises, and Jessica Mbangeni.

Goba congratulated all this year’s nominees. He said Isiqu Accountants had officially opened the voting process, urging the public to participate and support their favorite nominees.
