Renovated Hillcrest swimming pool now open to public

“We have installed a completely new system that will allow the pool to work in conjunction with the older boiler system, which will keep the pool heated every time there is power,” says ward 56 councillor Jarad Frimmel.

The newly repaired Hillcrest swimming pool in the east of Pretoria was officially opened to the public on Monday.

Mayor Brink announced this during the media briefing after conducting a site inspection at the community swimming pool.

“The swimming pool is again open to the community,” Brink said, adding that he had been delighted to announce its reopening.

The announcement was made after the first part of the repair, forcing the pool to remain closed for about two months, had been completed.

He cited that together with ward 56 councillor Jarad Frimmel, they were excited about the development and the reopening of an important facility for the community.

According to the mayor, the facility is important to the general members of the community as well as students and swimming professionals.

“This is an Olympic standard swimming pool.”

He said significant work had been done before the official opening, which took place at the beginning of this month.

The mayor said although the swimming pool was opened to the public, its renovation was not yet complete.

“Some work still needs to be done. Such as painting,” he said.

Providing more details about the repair, Frimmel said the swimming pool was closed on May 1 and reopened on July 3.

“The swimming pool was closed at the beginning of winter because the heater was malfunctioning,” Frimmel said.

He said the repair or upgrade was important because the original boiler system was “quite old and now we have a new inverter heated swimming pump installed”.

“We have installed a completely new system that will allow the pool to work in conjunction with the older boiler system, which will keep the pool heated every time there is power,” he said.

He emphasised the point that the swimming pool was open to the community.

“The pool is quite nice and warm. You can come and swim, train, have a nice day and enjoy the facility.”

He said the swimming pool was conducive for both children and adults as it has a shallow and deep end.
