Stakeholders uplift learners by generous donation

Learners from Mamelodi and Centurion received school uniforms to keep warm this winter.

Jerseys and other school clothes were handed over to learners of two schools in Pretoria recently.

Learners at the Mononong primary school in Mamelodi received 76 jerseys and 48 learners from the Philena primary school in Centurion received school jerseys, school shirts and socks.

The donations were made by Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBSA), Makro and Thandanani Drop Inn to motivate learners for a brighter future.

Unathi Mbanya from CCBSA said the work of dealing with challenges in our education system cannot rest on the government alone.

She said education is central to the development and improvement of the lives of young people in South Africa.

“We recognise the deep socio-economic issues at play in our country where poverty, unemployment and inequality in our communities are rife.

“Supporting the educational aspirations of our young people is one way in which we believe we can help turn the tide and create a better future for all in South Africa,” said Mbanya.

She said education is important in eradicating poverty and promoting sustained, inclusive, and equitable economic growth for sustainable development.

“As a business, we are responsive towards initiatives like the #Back2School campaigns and we strive to keep children at school through several initiatives.”

Ingrid Mokoena, an educator from Mononong primary school said education remains a top priority at their school.

“We want our children to be able to be present and attend their schooling with less interruption as possible,” said Mokoena.

“One simple action can go a long way to inspire the learners throughout their years of schooling. We know the challenges faced by our communities.”

Philena primary school deputy principal S’thembile Judith Mbatha said, “What you did today won’t go unnoticed, thanks for considering our school and putting smiles on our children’s faces”.

She said this is one of the many initiatives the bottling company has introduced to help balance the scales and play an active role in building a better future for the youth.

“CCBSA was actively involved in several initiatives that seek to elevate and equip matriculants, high school learners and university students for success,” said Mbatha.

She added through these initiatives the company sustainably creates social impact for the youth in South Africa through programmes such as the Study Buddy Fund which pays for full tuition, accommodation fees, as well as textbooks.
