Several streets in various parts of Pretoria will be closed off for around 14 hours to motorists on Sunday, owing to the massive annual Tshwane Classic Cycling event.
Areas to be affected include Groenkloof, Irene, Centurion, Rooihuiskraal and the Hennops River Meander.
“The City of Tshwane is opening its roads to cyclists for mass participation in a single-day road race over distances of 99km and 50km,” Tshwane metro police said in a statement on Wednesday.
Metro police revealed that a new spectator-friendly route scheduled to start at the Voortrekker Monument and end at Rodger Dyason Road would be introduced this year.
More than 15 streets will be affected.
These include Eeufees Road, Christina de Wit Avenue, M36 Alexandra Road, Transoranje Road, N4 Magalies Highway, Rooihuiskraal Road, Ruimte Road, R55, Apiesdoring Avenue, Spinetail Street, Voortrekker Road, Industrial Road, Pretoria Main Road, Roger Dyason Road, Nellmapius Drive and R511.
The streets will be affected from 04:00 to 18:00.
Metro police officers would be deployed to monitor all road closures and affected streets.
