Good Samaritan donates oxygen machine to man after reading story in Rekord

A man suffering from emphysema has receive an expensive portable oxygen machine from an anonymous donor.

A Hatfield man suffering from emphysema, a lung condition that causes shortness of breath, recently received a portable oxygen machine from a good Samaritan.

This after Rekord reported Stuart Hunter’s ordeal at the end of June last year.

Hunter was confined to his room for around four years because he did not have the necessary equipment to mitigate the effect of his illness.

At the time he was at high risk of losing his life during load-shedding since the booster oxygen machine and oxygen cylinder he had could only run for up to three hours without electricity.

The new machine is capable of providing him oxygen for eight hours, which has added value to his life.

“I would like to thank Rekord for making the people aware of my hardship and the donor for making my life easier,” Hunter told Rekord on Monday.

The new machine runs on two chargeable batteries for eight hours without electricity.

“Before receiving the new machine, I only relied on the oxygen cylinder during power cuts.”

After Rekord had published his story, an “anonymous angel” called him and offered him the portable oxygen machine, he said.

“The person asked me to send him my address and he delivered the oxygen machine,” Hunter said.

Hunter said when he asked how much it would cost, the person said it was a special gift to make his life easier but the machine is worth approximately R50 000.

“The new machine makes it easier for me to move from one place to another and do what I want. I am now able to travel to shopping centres and even fly to various destinations.

“Receiving the oxygen machine is one of my most memorable events this year,” he concluded.
