Sunnyside CPF raises awareness of its existence

The failure of community to participate in CPF structures may help criminals thrive, warns Sunnyside CPF.

The Sunnyside CPF said it wants to raise the community’s awareness of its role in fighting crime in the policing precinct, which includes Groenkloof and Arcadia.

“While many people are aware of us, some are not,” said the CPF’s secretary Samuel Boshego.
“We are worried about that because we believe that the CPF is an important community organisation in our area.”

Boshego said when some community members do not know about the CPF or participate, it is easy for criminals to commit crimes because fewer people then took a stance against crime.

“We need to remain united as community members. Together, we can help the police effectively fight the criminals who terrorise our family members, friends and loved ones daily. I, therefore, urge community members to associate themselves with the CPF’s programmes to play a meaningful role in reducing crime in the area.”

When working with the CPF and the police, people were protecting themselves and those close to them from falling victim to criminals.

“The CPF is busy with programmes to ensure that it is visible and almost everyone in the community knows about it.”

He said they were at an advanced stage of ensuring that the community patrollers programme was up and running effectively, adding that they were preparing to soon officially open the caretakers’ forum and youth desk.

“The youth desk is important in ensuring that the youth becomes involved in CPF activities.”

He said the CPF was a community organisation and it thus could not exist without the participation of the community.
