The Tshwane SAPS flying squad recently recovered two stolen Toyota Hiluxes in Soshanguve Block VV and Ga-Rankuwa.
One of the vehicles, a white Toyota Hilux, had been stolen in Sunnyside, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Alfred Legodi.
“The car, which was fitted with a false stolen registration plate, was found abandoned in Mogwane Street, Soshanguve Block VV,” he said.
Last weekend, a grey Toyota Hilux, which was stolen in Rustenburg, was recovered.
“It was parked in an empty yard at Kudube unit 6 in Temba,” he said.
He said the Toyota Hilux was “in demand” with car thieves.
Other vehicles being targeted by criminals included the Fortuner, Ford Ranger, BMW, NP200, VW Polo, 4×4 vehicles and 4×2 bakkie/vans.
He said most of these cars were not hijacked, but stolen.
Legodi said that the security guards in some areas were working with criminals to steal cars.
He also advised motorists to avoid driving at night and going to shebeens, “because ladies are working with the thugs”.
